HTC Desire 820

140bcR441130-454WHTC Desire 820 is great looking phone that actually is packed with some great looking features. It has fast 64bit processor like the iPhone’s A7 processor and the overall performance is pretty good. The display size is quite big, so we can actually call it a phablet. If you are looking for a large screen display smartphone with fast cpu and bright good looking UI, this is the one you’ve been looking for. The only downside is the below average quality of selfies and low resolution of the screen. But other than that, this is a great smartphone that HTC released on November, 2014.

Design:

The body is 6.21in in length, 3.10in in width and .30in in thickness. So this is a really thin body design. That might look good for some people but some might find it a little uncomfortable holding as the size of this device is definitely not small. The weight is 155 grams. The two tone shell found in tuxedo grey and misty blue actually looks really beautiful if you ask us.

Display:

For a smartphone HTC offers you a whooping 5.5 inches display but the resolution is quite low comparing with Samsung or iPhone 6. The massive display has 720 x 1280 resolution which only offers 267ppi. The display obviously supports multi-touch with HTC sense UI 6.0.

Hardware:

The Taiwanese owner of HTC now actually has something to feel proud with the strong hardware they have provided with this smartphone. Four 1.5GHz and four 1GHz cores with 2GB RAM is really something pretty hardcore that makes this device operate super smooth on various resource hungry apps out there. The Adreno 405 GPU might not be the best out there but it’s still capable of doing some awesome graphics work for rich graphics apps. So be prepared to play some popular high graphics Android games, if you are into that.

Camera:

The camera is located at the top left corner of the poly-carbonated chassis, which is similar to what Apple did with their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. The  13 MP rear camera with  8MP front camera makes it both great for selfies and landscape photo shooting. Although there are some complains about the wide angle shot being noisy. So with super fast processor you are probably not getting the best camera.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Connectivity and Technology:

Just like usual smartphone this device supports all the available network on 2g, 3g, 4g network and uses a nano sim.

Battery:

The battery is Non-removable Li-Po 2600 mAh, which has upto 23 hours of talk time and 424 hours of standby time.

Multimedia and Other Features:

Unfortunately this device runs on Android OS, v4.4.2 (KitKat) which is not the latest Lollipop version. But the Loud Boomsound speakers and other brilliant looking UI makes this smartphone pretty good looking. The other features include Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, simultaneous HD video and image recording, HDR etc

Pros:

The things that we liked on HTC 820 are-

  • The great looking UI
  • The speaker with built-in amplifier.
  • really powerful CPU
  • Awesome keyboard

Cons:

The things that we didn’t like are-

  • Bad quality of selfies, mostly grainy.
  • Wide angle shots are not that good either.
  • Screen resolution is low compared to other large screen smartphone competitors.

Verdict:

The price is low but the CPU is good. The body is plastic made but the 8MP front camera is going to be great to capture the new growing market of large display lovers. But the low resolution of display is going to make a lot of customers turn away to other options.
