The Finnish giant electronics manufacturer Nokia took a big gamble joining forces with Microsoft to perfect its Lumia Series lineup of high-end smartphones. The results have been more than satisfactory considering that the Lumia Series spots one of the most advanced camera phones in the market. This can be illustrated in the Nokia Lumia 1520.
The manufacturer announced the launch of Nokia 1520 on 22nd October 2013 and it was officially released on 15th November 2013. The phone came with some great features some of which are described below:
Design: The phone’s dimensions are 6.41×3.36×0.34 inches and weighs in at just 209g. This makes it a phablet, meaning it’s a big sized smartphone hence you will need big hands to operate it or use two hands simultaneously. It comes with Windows Phone 8 operating system.
Display: Nokia 1520 has a 6 inched display with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels and a pixel density of 368 ppi. The display is made using the IPS LCD Technology with colors spectrum of 16,777,216 and it is multi-touch screen. Other feature on the screen include: scratch-resistant glass, light sensor, polarizing filter and proximity sensor.
Hardware: The hardware under the hood of the Nokia 1520 is equally impressive. With features such as Quad Core 2200 Mhz, Krait 400 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 2048MB of RAM. This makes it have quite a fast processing power. When it comes to memory, it comes with 32GB ROM which can be expanded by either a microSDHC or microSD up to 64GB.
Camera: Like all the Lumia series phones, the Nokia 1520 has a 20MP rear-camera, with a Dual LED Flash, F2.4 Aperture size, 26mm Focal length, 1/2.5” Camera sensor size, Auto Focus, BSI, Digital Zoom, Exposure Compensation and an optical image stabilizer. It also has a 1.2MP front-camera and a Camcorder with 1920×1080 resolutions.
Connectivity and Technology: Nokia 1520 comes with a GSM, UMTS, LTE, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, voice navigation, turn-by-turn navigation and points of interest (POI).
Battery: The Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with an impressive 3400 mAH battery that has 27.4 hours talk time, 32 days (768 hours) stand-by time, 25.1 hours 3G talk time, you can replace it once it gets bad and you can charge it wirelessly.
Multimedia: Nokia 1520 comes with an FM, RDS and Stereo Radio. Looking at the speakers it has a quality Loudspeaker and Earpiece. Has a good Music Player that can filter your music library based on Playlists, Artists, Album. The Music Player also showcases Album Art Cover, can play in the background and comes with preset equalizers. It also has a YouTube Player.
Other Features: It has MP3 and Polyphonic options for ringtones, Vibration, Silent mode, Flight mode, Speakerphone, Voice dialing, Voice commanding, Haptic feedback and Voice recording.
Pros: In addition to all the above impressive features, the Nokia 1520 has a solid unibody made of polycarbonate plastic casing which gives it quite a sturdy body frame. This gives it a definite and interesting design look.
Cons: The one thing most users have complained about this phone is that it is too big. Some feel it borders the class of being a tablet and not a smartphone. But this depends on personal appeal, since individuals with big hands or those who don’t mind using both of their hands to operate it have little to complain of in terms of its size.
Verdict: The Nokia Lumia 1520 is one of the best smartphone currently in the market. Any consumer that purchases this device will get good value for money spent.
