The Archos 53 Platinum belongs to the Platinum series of smartphones which were launched at the IFA event last year. The series comprise of newly designed smartphones that are meant to meet the need of users in terms of smart features and smart operations while not being overly too costly.

The Archos 52 Platinum smartphone comes packed with the following smart features. They are:

Design: The Archos 53 Platinum comes with Dual SIM, Dual Standby features with the SIM 1 slot supporting only 2G Network (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz) while the SIM 2 slot supports 3G Network (WCDMA 900/2100). It weighs 189.9 grams and has a body dimension of 153.6x78x9.25 mm. It comes loaded with the Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS.

Display: It has a 5.3 Inched IPS Display with Multitouch and Capacitive features. The screen has a resolution of 960×540 pixels (qHD) with a pixel density of 220 ppi. The screen can display over 16 million colors, can support wide angle viewing and has the Full Black laminated process technology.

Hardware: Under the hood, the Archos 53 Platinum packs a Quad Core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-5 Qualcomm 8225Q processor, coupled with a 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage capacity. The storage capacity can be further expanded to 64 GB using a microSD card.

Camera: It has a dual camera, with the front camera being an 8 MP camera with other features like LED Flash, autofocus, BSI sensors, Geo-tagging, face and smile detection, HDR, image stabilizer and touch focus. It is also capable of recording 720p videos. The front camera has 2 MP properties.

Connectivity and Technology: In terms of connectivity, it features a 3.5 mm headphone connector, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, UpnP, DNLA, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR. It also has microUSB (USB 2.0). It also supports the following data rates: HSUPA 5.76 Mbit/s and HSDPA 7.2 Mbit/s.

Battery: It is powered by a 2800 mAh battery capable of supporting the phone with up to 264 hours of standby time, 21 hours of 2G talk time and 15 hours of 3G talk time.

Multimedia: In terms of multimedia and entertainment, the Archos 53 Platinum smartphone can support video playback of the following video formats; AVI/ 3GP/ MP4 and H.264 up to 720 p. Its music player can support the following formats of audio files: AAC+, AAC, OGG Vorbis, MP3 and WAV (ADPCM/ PCM). Its photo viewer on the other side can support JPEG, PNG, GIF and BMP formats of pictures.

Other Features: In terms of phone alerts, the Archos 53 Platinum has got vibrations, WAV/ MP3 ringtones. It also has got loudspeaker for playing music. In terms of messaging it supports Push Email, Email, MMS and SMS threaded view.

Pros: Archos 53 Platinum has an impressive big display with a good resolution. It also has a fast processor coupled by a big RAM size.

Cons: Although it has the HSUPA and HSDPA data rates, this is still less than the 4G LTE data transmission.

Verdict: The Archos 53 Platinum smartphone is a decent phone and if you are looking for a good mid-range phone with big screen and impressive hardware underneath then the Archos 53 Platinum is definitely the phone to go for.
