The Archos 50 Platinum is another phone from Archos Platinum series that were launched during the 2013 IFA event. Like the rest of the Platinum series smartphones, it is also a Dual SIM Dual Standby phone.
All the phones in the Platinum series have a difference, thus their different model numbers. And the features on the Archos 50 Platinum are as listed below:
Design: The Archos 50 Platinum phone comes loaded with Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) OS. It has a body dimension of 143.4×72.4×8.9 mm and weighs 160.2 grams. It is a Dual SIM, Dual Standby phone with the SIM 1 Slot supporting only 2G Network (GSM/GPRS/ EDGE 900/1800/1900 MHz) while the SIM 2 Slot supports 2G & 3G (WCDMA 900/2100).
Display: It is equipped with a 5 Inched IPS Display with 5 point Multitouch, Capacitive features. The screen has a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (qHD) and a pixel density of 220 ppi. The screen is made up of a glass-type that possesses the Full Black laminated process feature and it also supports wide viewing angles.
Hardware: Underneath the phone, it has a Quad Core 1.2 GHz Cortex A-5 Qualcomm 8225Q processor, backed by a 1 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 4GB. The storage memory can be expanded to a maximum of 64 GB using a microSD card.
Camera: It comes with dual cameras, the rear camera being an 8 MP camera with LED flash and other features such as BSI sensor and autofocus. It has 8x digital zoom capability, touch focus, HDR, Geo-tagging and smile detection image stabilizer feature. It can also record 720p videos. On the front it is equipped with a 2 MP camera.
Connectivity and Technology: In terms of connectivity, it has Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP and EDR. It also has Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, 3.5 mm headphones connector and microUSB 2.0. In terms of mobile data technology, it supports 2G and 3G networks.
Battery: The Archos 50 Platinum smartphone is powered by a 2000 mAh battery that is able to support up to 161 hours of standby time, 12.3 hours of 2G talk time and 9.8 hours of 3G talk time.
Multimedia: It has video playback capability that supports H.264 to 720p resolution – 30 fps/ 3GP/ AVI/ MP4. In terms of audio file playback, it supports MP3, AAC+5.13, AAC, OGG Vorbis and WAV (ADPCM/PCM). The phone’s photo viewer supports GIF, BMP, JPEG and PNG formats.
Other Features: It has a loudspeaker, and WAV/ MP3 ringtones and vibration alerts. In terms of messaging it supports Email, Push Mail, MMS and SMS threaded view. It also has the following types of sensors: Proximity sensor, G-Sensor, ambient light sensors.
Pros: It has a big display which enhances the users experience in watching videos, playing games and typing. It has a fast processing power and a RAM size that is big enough.
Cons: It does not have 4G LTE connectivity which is a major limiting factor considering that 4G network is fast becoming the standard.
Verdict: The Archos 50 Platinum smartphone is a decent middle level smartphone that provides big display with advanced features. It is worth the price charged.
