This was one of the Archos’s flagship LTE phones that were launched at January 2014. Archos is a company predominantly known for manufacturing audio and video equipment entered the smartphones market by releasing the Archos 45 Helium and Archos 50 Helium smartphones. The following review looks at some of the features the Archos 50 Helium has in stores for customers. They are as follows:
Design: The Archos 50 Helium comes with the Android 4.3 OS installed, however users can later upgrade to Android 4.4. It has a body dimension of 145.00 x 71.50 x 8.95 mm.
Display: It has a 5 inched HD LCD Display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The screen is a capacitive touchscreen with the ability to display color ranges of up to 16 million.
Hardware: Underneath the Archos 50 Helium sports a Quad Core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM8926 processor, an Adreno 305 GPU, a 1 GB RAM and internal storage capacity of 8 GB. It also has a microSD slot which will enable you to expand the memory further.
Camera: It is packed with an 8 MP rear camera with flash capability. On the front it has a 2 MP front camera. The rear camera is capable of 1080p HD video recording capability.
Connectivity and Technology: When it comes to connectivity, the Archos 50 features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.00, GPS, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, 3.5 mm headphone connector and a microUSB port. In terms of technology, it supports the 2G Network (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) and LTE but it does not support 3G Network.
Battery: The Archos 50 Helium smart features if powered by a 2000 mAh battery. Details on how much talk time, standby time, music playback and video playback is yet to be verified.
Multimedia: It comes with a FM Radio, Music Player, YouTube player and Video playback. The music player arranges you music library in terms of playlists, albums and artists. It can also play in the background as you run other applications.
Other Features: It terms of messaging, the Archos 50 Helium supports Email, Push Mail, MMS and SMS threaded view. It also has the following sensors: magnetometer or a compass, proximity sensor, accelerometer and ambient light sensor.
Pros: The 5 Inched display is a great plus since it enhances the user’s experience while watching videos, playing games or typing. It also has a big RAM size and a considerably fast quad core processor. This is the type of phone that will run several application simultaneously without hanging.
Cons: The inability to support 3G Network is considered a weak point; a smartphone should be able to support various types of network.
Verdict: The Archos 50 Helium is relatively expensive compared to its counterpart the Archos 45 Helium. This is obviously due to its superior features compared to the later. This phone although it can’t quite make it to the high-end classification, it is largely more than a middle-level smartphone. It provides some of the superior high-end smartphone features at a relatively affordable price. It would be ideal for person looking for high-end smartphone features but is a little restricted by budget.
